Three Faces of Spring

Seemingly every tree in the Sandhills fully unfurled its leaves this week; 
in the midst of whirlwinds and torrential rains, spring has arrived in earnest, and everywhere familiar faces abound. 

Butterfly.

Beauty plain and simple.


Palamedes swallowtail.



Was there ever a child who spied a butterfly and did not squeal with glee?  


Wonder a-wing.

Snake.

Surveying the sunset.


Corn snake.


Camouflaged now among the leaves, eyes a-glitter with the warm spring sun.


Turtle.

On the move with the abundant rains.


Common snapping turtle.


Uncommonly beautiful.
